Adopt Daphne

Daphne is a beautiful 55lb German Shepard Mix who was found wandering the mean streets of LA.  After 6 hours, a team of dedicated rescuers were able to catch her.  She was then taken to a local shelter in hopes her owners were looking for her.  After nobody came for this sweet girl, Rover's Retreat stepped in to rescue her!

Despite her ruff life, Daphne remains a gentle and loving girl.  She loves to snuggle and be by your side to keep you company.  Daphne shows no aggression towards people and is won over in minutes.  She is still learning how to greet new dogs she encounters, but with a little bit of practice, she’ll be great.  At home Daphne is playful!  She will signal to you when she wants her favorite toy thrown so she can fetch it again.  Daphne is house trained and has never had an accident inside . Daphne sleeps inside a crate all night but, given the chance, she would be happy to sleep in your bed to snuggle!

During working hours, Daphne takes the opportunity to relax and rest on the couch or on her bed.  When she is bored, she will come over to you for some pets.  Daphne is incredibly sensitive to new noises and can get a little scared if she does not recognize where the noise is coming from.  When Daphne is scared, she will bark but will come to you for comfort.  If you tell her everything will be okay, she trusts you.  Daphne is phenomenal on walks and doesn't pull.  She notices other dogs but, once you tell her to leave it, she understands.  Daphne is currently in the process of learning the basics.  In 3 short weeks, Daphne has mastered the following commands: sit, down, go to your bed, and how to wait for her food.  She is an incredibly fast learner and is food-driven.

Daphne also knows how to get in and out of the car when instructed but is still learning how to balance herself during car rides.  Daphne loves affection and will ask you for more once it has stopped.  She loves treats and mealtimes, anything involving food.  Daphne enjoys her walks...she goes twice a day for 15 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon.  She really likes the couch and bringing you presents, like toys and sometimes socks.  Daphne does not love being left alone at home.  She is actively working on it and has gotten significantly better than when she first arrived.  Daphne does not like strange noises that are above her she may bark but is easily soothed.  She does not like sharing her bed with other dogs and would most likely be territorial when it comes to food and other doggy items.  For this reason, Daphne should be the only dog in the home.

We are looking for a forever family for Daphne that will commit to socializing her but will also be okay having her as an only dog.  Daphne’s ideal home is one where she can be provided the adequate amount of love and attention she needs.  She would prefer a home where she can see her owners as much as possible and spend quality time doing things like walking, training, and playing.  Daphne's ideal backyard needs to be fully secure and her family needs to understand she can not be left alone outside unattended.  Daphne would jump fences and dig holes to be closer to her owners.  Daphne doesn’t need much... just some, food, water, love, walks, and pets.  Provided seh has these things, she is the happiest and best dog you’ll ever find.
