Adopt Maya

Hi friends! My name is Maya and I made my way from Mexico to find my forever home. I am a 2-year-old Chihuahua who has lived a hard life up until now. I was abandoned in the cold on the streets of Mexico by my old owner when they decided they didn’t want me anymore. A wonderful rescuer found me sad and alone and took me under her wing. I have since traveled to the U.S. and have spent the last several weeks settling in at my new foster home. I have adjusted well and am now ready to start the search for my new forever family.  I have been doing very well with potty training and have had no accidents in my foster home. I also love to go for walks and am good on leash. I do very well with dogs my size and love to play with my doggy foster sister.  I would love to have a doggy sibling my size in my forever home to keep me company.

Despite me being around 2 years old I still act like a puppy. I am definitely a Velcro dog and I like to be with my person all the time. Because of this I would do best with someone who is home a lot.  I definitely put the lap in lap dog and would spend all day cuddling with my person if it was up to me!  I can be untrusting of new people, so it takes me a little while to warm up and show my affectionate and playful side. At times I get scared that new people will take my person from me, so sometimes I get protective.

Because of my rough past I will need my forever family to work with me on getting more comfortable around new people. Socializing will be very important for me in my forever home so I can gain more confidence in new situations.  I tend to bond very closely with one person and want to be with them all the time. I would be a great companion for someone who is looking for a dog who will be at their feet or in their lap all the time.  I am looking for a patient person who will allow me to adjust in my own time, and in turn they will get the best cuddle buddy. Could you be the person I’ve been waiting for?
