Dogs come into rescue for many reasons, and some just desperately need to be saved. That was Theodore. He was seen running around the high desert for days, and anytime someone would try to help him he would take off. An amazing networker went looking for him and spotted him. Unfortunately he took off running when he heard her voice, but she didn’t give up. She tracked his movements until he landed hiding behind a tree against a fence. Slowly she approached with food and water, and thankfully was able to get a slip lead on him. She had to carry all 84 lbs of him to her car as he wouldn’t walk. He was in very rough shape…very skinny, matted coat, bad ear infections, dehydrated, torn up paw pads from running on concrete in the heat, and beyond exhausted.
Theo spent days decompressing and starting to heal at his foster home. Our vet treated his ears and paw pads and put him on antibiotics. He knew he was safe, getting good nutrition and TLC and he healed up incredibly well. He has been neutered, vaccinated, and his bloodwork was surprisingly good for all he had been through. He is approximately 5 years old and at 84 lbs is still a bit thin.
Theo has a wonderful personality! He’s very sweet and docile, calm and does very well in the house. Teddy prefers calm humans at first until he gets to know them. He is a soft and gentle soul. A little shy at first, but then loves people of all ages. Once he knows you and feels secure, he will instigate play.
Theo does very well on leash but will benefit by more practice. He doesn’t pull and is not reactive, but we’re guessing he didn’t go on many outings/adventures prior to rescue as everything is new to him and he can be a little unsure. He rides well in the car. He is very curious and enjoys the adventures and going on walks. Theo does well with other dogs of all sizes, as well as cats.
At home, he is a gentleman. He hasn’t had any potty accidents at his foster home. He enjoys being petted, being brushed, and being loved on once he is comfortable. Theo is a moderate energy boy who is happy lying around the house and hanging with his people. He thrives on routine as well.
We are looking for a family who will give him the life he deserves, and be patient with him as he explores the world and feels safe in a new space. He is a very happy, animated boy once he settles in. He needs gentle guidance and encouragement with new things, and a person (or people) he can trust. In return you will get an amazing companion.
