Meet Sangria
Every once in a while, a dog comes along who steals your heart. Sangria is that dog.
His story began in May 2024 when we rescued his mom, Capri Sun, and her six “beverage litter” puppies. We were so excited in August 2024 when Sangria became the first of the litter to find his forever home. We truly thought he was living his happily ever after.
Then, in June 2025, we were shocked and heartbroken when his adopters returned him because he had developed seizures. Even more heartbreaking, we learned that despite having seizures for over three months, he had never received medical care. We got Sangria back into rescue immediately and rushed to get him the help he desperately needed. He was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy, and we immediately started him on treatment.
The last year has included medication adjustments, setbacks, scary moments, and plenty of reasons to hope. Today, we’re thrilled to say that Sangria is in a really good place. He takes medication every day and always will, but his epilepsy is being managed and doesn’t stop him from living a happy, active life.
Along the way, Sangria has built quite a fan club. He has an entire village of people who love him, cheer him on, celebrate every victory, and refuse to give up on him. He has inspired everyone who’s been part of his journey with his resilience, sweetness, and unwavering joy.
And the best part? Sangria hasn’t let any of it change who he is.
He’s handsome, sweet, playful, and has fantastic social skills. He loves people, gets along great with other dogs, and is even good with cats. He’s incredibly gentle and affectionate, a true California boy who loves running through the ocean, chasing balls, and never turns down a good snack.
This 60-pound Australian Shepherd mix is the total package. We know that adopting a special-needs dog isn’t the right fit for everyone, but we also know that the right family is out there. And when they find Sangria, they’ll be getting so much more than a dog. They’ll be getting a loyal best friend who has overcome incredible odds without ever losing his joy, and one of the sweetest souls we’ve ever had the privilege to know.
