We rescued Chili from the South LA shelter where he had been surrendered along with 2 other pups. The shelter told us he was unsocialized with people and wouldn’t walk on leash, so we had a feeling he absolutely needed rescue’s help. What we found was an incredibly sweet puppy who walked out of the shelter on leash and quietly greeted our volunteers. He was listed as a lab mix around 5 months old, but based on his coloring and coat we are suspecting there is some golden in there along with other things! Our vet estimated he is closer to 8 months old, and at 30 lbs currently he will probably be around 40-45 lbs full grown. He has the cutest freckles on his nose and paws to go along with his adorable personality.
Chili is a moderate energy, happy, loving boy. He enjoys playing with toys, loves being petted (especially belly rubs) and being close to his people, and is learning to enjoy walks. He desperately wants to play with other dogs, so his forever family should have a dog that would enjoy a playful sibling. Chili is doing very well with his potty training, and has learned to use the dog door at his foster home. However, his future family will need to show him the appropriate place to go potty and praise him for going there. Accidents may happen until he understands the routine at his new home.
We’re guessing Chili led a pretty sheltered life prior to rescue. Chili is initially scared of new people. He will walk past people with no problem but if a new person is trying to approach and greet him he will bark, possibly growl, and retreat. If you’re patient, gentle, and give him time to approach he will soon become your best friend. If his new family takes him to a training class where he can meet new people in a controlled and safe environment, that will help desensitize him and make him more comfortable. We have seen zero aggression in Chili. He is just a sweet insecure young pup who has lived a pretty small life prior to rescue.
We are looking for a patient, loving adopter who has another playful dog for Chili. With encouragement, gentle guidance, and lots of love he will be the absolute best addition to any family.
