Meet Adalyn! A beautiful 9-month-old puppy girl wrapped in a happy, joyful bundle of golden fur! We are looking for a very special family for Adalyn as her first 9 months were spent with anything but that. Adalyn was likely kept in the backyard of her home and never allowed inside. We don't think she was ever walked, or interacted with very much at all. When she first came into foster care, she was very wary and nervous of every single thing - the whole outside world was new to her. She was nervous about people, being inside, being outside, being on a leash, being petted - everything! She had no idea what she liked. Now though, she is beginning to blossom and relax a lot more.
Adalyn is a big puppy. So, she will steal shoes, socks, bathroom tissue, kitchen roll, pens. Anything at all left lying around. She likes to chew bones and run around with them in her mouth, and they have been very helpful in her foster home to keep her busy, as will walks and teaching her about balls. She is nervous on her walks, and is unsure of where to walk exactly, but is learning and does not pull. Adalyn is a big counter surfer and is an excitable jumper - she wants ALL of her foster mum's attention and so she thinks she gets that by jumping up - however, she is learning the word "off" quickly and her new family will need to continue to be consistent. She is definitely a people pleaser and is trying really hard to remember that if she sits down and does not jump up, that's when she will get petted. She does know what sit means and gets treated every time she does it.
Adalyn has slept every night on the bed with her foster mum or on the bedroom floor peacefully. She has also had no potty accidents at all in the house. She has lived with 3 large dogs - 2 goldens and a Samoyed and she gets along with them well. She is submissive to the other dogs. They are confident, happy, adult dogs and she is really trying hard to learn manners from them. For the first week she had no desire to play at all with them, and her interaction was primarily licking their faces- another submissive sign. But, after just a week, she started to play with the Samoyed. Now she enjoys running around and playing with him. As her confidence grows, she will play more and more.
Adalyn loves kisses, cuddles and pets the most although bones are a very close second. She cannot get close enough - sometimes laying on top of her foster mum as she tries to read or watch TV as if to say, "Can't you see me? I'm right here!” Adalyn will follow her foster mum everywhere and can get under her feet - so care should be taken because she is not a 20lb puppy, but rather a 70lb one. Adalyn is still in her puppy mouthy stage, where she will try to grab your hand or arm in her mouth when she is excited - she is gentle, but we think very young children in her home would not be a fit until she outgrows that. Adalyn has shown no fear around the swimming pool in her home, even getting onto the baja step on her own, though she has not gone any further yet. However, a pool or trips to the beach would be something we think she might enjoy. She likes treats and takes them very gently - so that will help with her training.
What Adalyn needs in her new home:
A family absolutely committed to taking Adalyn to group training sessions at the local pet store or similar, and continuing on with the series - not just stopping after the first; e.g. Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Clicker for Tricks trainings. Being around other people and dogs at training sessions will really make Adalyn shine and give her the confidence she needs. A confident dog who will not get upset by a boisterous puppy, or access to a dog to walk or play with a couple of times a week. A puppy should not be left for hours at a time so a home where folks are gone most the day will not be chosen for her.
