This handsome hunk is Obi, a 3 year old golden boy who came to us because his former family didn’t have time for him. Obi is such a good boy with a big heart and calm energy. He loves his people and is very happy to greet you with multiple toys in his mouth and lots of wiggles. He is quiet and rarely barks. He has been a great houseguest at his foster home, and will let is people know when he needs to go potty.
Obi enjoys being near his people, but is ok being left for short periods as long as long as he has his toys. He is not destructive and leaves the chewing to his toys. He loves to get pets and a quick snuggle and then prefers to lay at your feet or nearby on a cool surface. Obi loves being in the car and will jump in the car at any opportunity.
Obi is a big, strong boy, and a bit clumsy (which is very entertaining!) He enjoys his walks and is currently going on 2 walks a day, each 1-2 miles. He wants to greet dogs on walks and will pull on leash to visit with them, but is not reactive. Obi also enjoys playing fetch in the yard and playing with his toys. When he’s focused on chewing a toy he would prefer to enjoy it in peace until he trusts you aren’t trying to take it away from him. That being said he will happily exchange a toy for a treat. Obi knows some basic commands like sit, lay down, paw, and will even sit at the door to get his paws wiped after a walk. He would benefit by additional training with his forever family.
Obi has lots of love to give, but needs a patient family willing to go at his pace. It seems he lived a pretty sheltered life prior to rescue as he needs time to adjust to a new home, and gets skittish from loud noises and sudden movements. A calmer household will be best for him, as well as a routine and things he can depend on. Obi came to us fearful of everything such as any unfamiliar noises (ex. dishwasher), tree branches that hung too low for his liking, and sudden movements especially over his head. When he is scared he cowers and freezes and it’s impossible to get him to move except by picking him up. Over time this will improve as he learns and trusts his surroundings, and knows he is home for good.
His ideal home would be someone around most of the time who will reassure him and help him gain confidence. Another confident dog would be great as well. Older kids would be good for him, but not a rowdy household. Obi deserves all the love and attention that he didn’t get prior to rescue.
