Meet Piper — a petite, gentle Golden Retriever with the kindest eyes and a heart full of quiet hope.

At under a year old, Piper found herself in a loud, overwhelming LA County shelter, clinging to what was likely her mom. Terrified and shut down, Piper’s future looked bleak until Rovers Retreat stepped in. We were able to rescue both girls and while her mom was adopted on the spot by a previous Rover’s adopter, Piper’s journey was just beginning.

Adjusting to life outside the shelter has been a big transition for Piper. She’s a resilient little soul, but it’s clear she’s never known the safety and comfort of a real home. Indoors, she still gets nervous. She will often retreat to her safe “spot” but she’s starting to understand that good things can happen inside, too. With time, she’s begun offering soft cuddles to her foster mom, a small but beautiful sign of trust.

Outside is where Piper truly comes alive. She’s a tail-wagging, curious pup who shines on walks, patio outings and trips to the pet store. While she still needs a bit of guidance on the leash, she’s happiest just being by your side, soaking up attention and affection.

Piper doesn’t know any formal commands yet, but she’s food-motivated and eager to learn. She adores her two foster doggie siblings and will need a home with a confident dog companion to show her the ropes and help her feel safe. Her ideal family will be patient, gentle and committed to helping her build confidence at her own pace.

This sweet girl may be shy at first, but once she begins to trust, she has so much love to give. Piper deserves a family who will see her potential, nurture her spirit, and show her that the world and inside the home — isn’t such a scary place after all.

Piper is currently being fostered in San Diego, CA and is available to adopters willing to travel to meet her (transport is not provided).
