Hi, I'm

Duncan

,

I'd be happiest with

love, play, guidance, and a big basket of toys

This handsome hunk is Duncan, an approximately 3 year old golden boy. Duncan was found as a stray in the Beaumont area and it’s truly shocking that no one came looking for him. Duncan is pretty much everything you could want in an amazing golden retriever. He has a gorgeous big head and a beautiful wavy coat, and a spectacular personality.

Duncan is well mannered, goofy, and lovable. He has great energy (loves lots of play and walks) and will get excited even if you look in his direction. He loves to wiggle next to you anytime you will let him and he will talk to you while he does it. He doesn’t “snuggle” per se but he wants to be close and wallow in your lap. Duncan is the definition of a velcro dog. He will be your shadow and will follow you from room to room and be your all-day companion. Duncan’s dream would be a family where he could lay on the couch with you, and also sleep in bed together.

His disposition is very calm and sweet when meeting new people. He usually doesn’t jump or get too excited. When he gets a case of the “wiggles” he looks for a plushy toy or two (aka his babies) to put in his mouth to act as a pacifier. He is super treat motivated and his foster family has been working on a few commands with him. He loves to sit for treats, and he’s working on waiting to eat his food until he hears “okay”. He can be a bit eager when taking treats, so he is also working to understand the command “gentle” when taking treats from your hand.

Duncan gets along well with other dogs. If the other dog is well mannered, he is gentle and easy going. If a dog barks at him, he isn’t a huge fan and will usually avoid them. Due to his lively and goofy personality (and eagerness to play as often as he can) we think he would thrive with another dog at home to keep him company throughout the day. He isn’t a fan of being crated and does get a bit anxious, but with practice he will settle in a crate for short periods. Because he is so velcro, he would do best with someone home more often than not.

Duncan is a young dog who does need some guidance. His foster family has caught him counter surfing, so it’s best to keep all food off your countertops. We haven’t seen him chew too many things other than his toys but he does like socks so keeping socks picked up would be recommended. He gets a little anxious on car rides and drools so his future family should plan to show him that car rides can be fun.

Duncan was very scared by young (3 and 5 year old) kids who came running towards him and wanted to say hello. He hid behind his foster dad for safety. Therefore, there shouldn’t be any young kids in Duncan’s forever home. We are looking for a family who is ready to open their hearts and home to this beautiful boy, and are prepared to give him all the love, guidance, and patience he needs to thrive.
