This handsome boy is Remi, a 2 1/2 year-old who came to us a few months ago from Turkey where had been abandoned by his 'family' and dumped at a shelter when a grandparent moved in. We thought he had found his forever family about 2 months ago, but he was abandoned a second time in his short life. We are heartbroken we made the wrong decision for him. He is a phenomenal and resilient boy and he is ready to find his forever family. The best way to describe him is a happy, ball-loving, sweet, ball-loving, cuddly, ball-loving, housebroken, ball-loving, well-adjusted, ball-loving boy. Did we mention ball-loving?! He is a petite boy weighing about 50 lbs.
Remi thrives on routine and gets excited when he sees his leash and he knows its walk time. He is a beautiful walker. He does not pull and is a great gentleman. He is fine meeting other dogs as long as they have good manners too and don't rush up on him and get in his face. He loves eating his dinner and then will curl up for a nap after. He sleeps all night long on a dog bed, the floor, or on the bed with his foster mum. He is a velcro boy who wants to follow his humans and lay down with them. He is starting to enjoy cuddles and closeness too. Remi talks to his humans if he needs something - like going outside, or for you to throw the ball. He has a doggie door and knows how to use it. He really enjoys laying out in the sun by the pool at his foster home, but is just as happy being inside. He does not destroy things in the home.
Remi currently lives with 3 big dogs - 2 goldens and a Samoyed. He was introduced carefully into the home and slowly as the resident dogs can be overwhelming as they just want to PLAY! Remi hasn't had much practice playing with other dogs so he can be a bit cautious at first. But, after that initial meeting he lives harmoniously together with them. On his second morning, he even instigated play with the Samoyed. He just doesn't really know yet HOW to play, but is learning!
Not sure if we mentioned it, but Remi really is ball obsessed. Balls are the most important thing in the world to him, followed closely by human affection. Fetch is what he lives for and would do it all day long, but he's not great yet at giving the ball back. He desperately wants to keep his special ball, but exchanging for a high value treat works wonders! We think Remi would work well in a home where he is either the only dog and can get all the loving and ball time he could ever want, or in a home with one other dog his own size who does not match his obsession for balls. Setting Remi up for success will include some basic training and will be a great bonding experience for him and his new family. Learning to "drop it" and to "give" the ball will make his play time so much more fun for everyone.
