This adorable girl is Bonnie. She and her buddy (could be friend, could be sibling) Clyde were left behind in outdoor kennels when a tenant moved out. A neighbor reached out looking for rescue help, and we answered the call! Bonnie is around 1-2 years old and weighs 33 lbs. The pictures can be deceiving about her size…she is quite petite.
In many ways Bonnie is still a puppy. She has lots of energy, loves toys (especially balls and chew toys), needs daily walks and play, and needs gentle guidance. She is eager to please and food motivated. She gets excited and jumps, and can get a bit mouthy but can easily be re-directed to appropriate chew toys. Because of this we won’t be placing her with young children. She is very agile, loves being on the couch to cuddle and has learned the joy of sleeping in bed with her people.
Bonnie gets along great with other dogs and would do best with a playmate/mentor and regular social opportunities with other dogs. Bonnie is experiencing a lot of ‘firsts’ in rescue, like seeing her reflection in the mirror and going on car rides. She is a very sweet girl, but may be shy with a new person initially. She does warm up quickly, though….especially if you have treats! She is food motivated and will be fun to train.
Bonnie has not yet gone potty on leash, so we are looking for a fenced yard for her. With access to a yard her potty training is going great. Bonnie needs a patient adopter who will give her gentle guidance, continue her training, give her lots of exercise and play, and positive experiences.
Bonnie is scheduled to be spayed on 2/18 and will be available for adoption once she is healed. If you’re interested in Bonnie, please complete our adoption application. Questions can be directed to nancy@roversretreat.org
